At the center of The Wilder there's an elderberry grove, and under it the chickens are always busy. All summer they scratch and peck beneath the bushes, turning the soil, chasing bugs and feeding the roots as they go. The grove feeds them shade, and they feed the grove.
By late summer the branches bend under clusters of dark berries. We pick them by hand, dry them, and layer them into glass jars with organic Ceylon cinnamon, orange, ginger, and star anise.
